Starting Year 13 and still not completely confident with hypothesis testing?
You covered binomial hypothesis testing in Year 12. Now you’re about to meet hypothesis testing again with correlation and the normal distribution.
This masterclass will help you get the foundations clear before you do.
Hypothesis testing shouldn’t feel like a list of rules to remember
Many students finish Year 12 knowing that they have to write down two hypotheses, calculate a probability, compare it with a significance level and write a conclusion…
…but without really understanding why they are doing any of it.
Which tail am I looking at? Why am I calculating this probability? What does the significance level actually tell me? How do I know whether to reject the null hypothesis?
And that becomes a problem in Year 13.
Because hypothesis testing comes back with correlation and with the normal distribution.
If the basic reasoning wasn’t clear the first time, adding a new context or distribution can make it even more confusing.
Let’s get the foundations right first
In this live masterclass, we’ll go back to binomial hypothesis testing and make sure you understand what is actually happening at every stage.
We’ll work through exam questions together and build a method you can use confidently, not just for binomial hypothesis tests, but as the foundation for the hypothesis testing you’ll meet later in Year 13.

Because in Year 13, hypothesis testing gets more challenging. You’ll meet it again with correlation and with the normal distribution, and both build on the same fundamental ideas you met in Year 12.
If those foundations aren’t secure, Year 13 hypothesis testing can very quickly become confusing, because you’re trying to learn the new method while still not being completely clear about the underlying idea.
This masterclass gives you the chance to go back, understand the reasoning properly and start Year 13 with a method that actually makes sense.
